Want to row?

Opportunities to try out the sport

2020 Update: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, OAR will not be hosting National Learn to Row Day in 2020. We look forward to seeing everyone at the boathouse for National Learn to Row Day in 2021.

We do plan to offer Adult Learn to Scull classes in July and August. Learning to row in a single-person scull is a great way to enjoy the outdoors in a socially distanced setting.

Please join us to learn the sport of rowing, enjoy being out on the water, and see Puget Sound from a new perspective!

Contact Joan Cullen at grannyjoan4@aol.com to receive program updates when they become available.

Learn to Sweep classes will not be held in 2020 due to social distancing restrictions.

OAR offers an annual Learn to Row Day on the first Saturday in June at the boathouse. Adults and students over age 13 are welcome to try it out – get in a sweep boat with some experienced rowers and a coach, feel the burn of the muscles on the ergometer and meet the OAR community.

What if you can’t make Learn to Row Day?
New to the sport? Sign up for a Learn to Scull or Learn to Sweep Row class, offered in the spring and summer. Once you pass the class, you are eligible to join the club.

Experienced rowers
If you already know how to row, you must complete a brief check-out with an OAR board member to be eligible for club boat use.

Sculling boats and equipment are available to check-out and use. If you own a boat, you can store it at the OAR boathouse for a yearly fee.
